Rocky Point Medical Clinics found its inception in 1998 when Dr. George Stavros did his first clinic in Puerto Penasco, Mexico and realized that this was his calling.
So he and his wife, Susie, started doing them at New Birth Mexican Mission church. With their involvement with Family of God Fellowshp growing, however, they made the clinics an outreach of their new home church.
"We are committed to having them wherever we are invited to have one in Penasco...as long as the main purpose is to proclaim Christ through the medical outreach.", stated the couple. "Our clinics are now once a month, except for August, when we have none."
"We received a small grant, which has allowed us to hire Loly Martinez as our administrator . We now have the city health dept. nurses at our clinics to do breast exams and pap smears. This has been a blessing, as they found a woman with early stage cancer and she is being treated."
"We also have started to raise a little money to pay for medical procedures...we have a little guy with a harelip and cleft palate who has had one surgery last winter and his next one shortly, which we were able to fund. We have several kids with heart problems whom we are helping."
"TB testing will be added soon, and we are now working with the local community to provide the best care for the people of Puerto Penasco. The Cruz Roja (Red Cross) helps us when needed and we have a local eye doctor and various local doctors who help us when needed.
This is all done with donations, and we are working on getting ongoing resources, so the clinics have a secure future in Penasco, for the people of Penasco. Living Streams church in Phoenix gives us support on a monthly basis, and we hope to expand our contributor base.
